Young drivers have been urged by a major insurance body to shop around for the best car cover available to them.
The Association of British Insurers (ABI) stated that despite many insurers being cautious to cover new drivers because of the increased possibility of them making a claim, there are still companies offering more competitive deals than others.
Malcolm Tarling, a spokesperson for the body, also said that the government could help to make the market more competitive by introducing a one-year minimum learning period.
He added that there are still some ways in which a young driver can insure themselves and also reduce their premiums with a prospective provider.
"Look into pass plus; some companies now offer incentives for young drivers who have this," he explained.
The Daily Telegraph has previously reported that insurance providers including Axa, More Than, Swiftcover and Halifax are among a number of companies rejecting cover applications from 17-year-olds.
